Distiller's Dried Grain with Soluble
Distiller’s Dried Grains with Soluble (DDGS) is the dried residueremaining after the starch fraction of maize, that is fermented withyeasts to produce ethanol. After the fermentation process, theethanol is removed by distillation and the remaining fermentationresidues are dried. This is a co-production of corn dry milling.
DDGS itself is an alternative feed ingredient in animal feed formulationdue to its high content of protein and fat, that usually contain 25-30%protein-fat basis.
DDGS is an excellent source of digestible protein and energy for cattle. It is highly palatable with a good source of readily available low-costorganic phosphorus and high in protein. The high energy level of DDGSis derived predominantly from fiber and fat and does not cause anyrisk of developing acidosis.
